Jeb Bishop & Jorrit Dijkstra w/ScottClark3tet+1 (w/Bryan Hooten)

I’m excited to let everyone know about the next show in the series that we’ve been doing at the wonderful ForInstance Gallery in Richmond, VA (107 East Cary St.). This wednesday (11/14) will feature former Chicago trombone player, now living in North Carolina, Jeb Bishop in a duo performance with the great saxophonist Jorrit Dijkstra. They are touring in support of their new album “1000 Words”.
(You can hear some samples of their music, and purchase a copy of their new album, on their bandcamp page at http://driffrecords.bandcamp.com/album/1000-words

Joining the show will be a slight variation of my ScottClark4tet, this time group will feature Bryan Hooten on trombone.

I hope you can come and join us for a great night of music and welcome these musicians to rva. ForInstance Gallery is a great intimate space to hear just this kind of music. Plus the backdrop of the amazing art by Martin Johnson makes for a truly unique experience.

One more new video…

Here is a short video of the 4tet from our trip to Connecticut playing our song “Clockwise”.
Thanks again to Carl Testa for having us play at his Uncertainty Music Series.  If you live in the New Haven area (or if you happen to be visiting) be sure to check out what’s going on with the series.  There are always great shows happening and it’s a great series to support.

New ScottClark4tet videos

Back in May we took a short trip to play a few shows in New York and Connecticut.  The shows went great and we we fortunate to have our show in New Haven, Connecticut recorded for us.  The show was at The Elm Bar and was part of The Uncertainty Music Series presented by the great bassist/composer Carl Testa.

Here are two songs from that night.

Both songs can be found on our new album “A&B” available from me or digitally on the bandcamp site (http://scottclark4tet.bandcamp.com/).

Jazz Session Interview

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting and hosting Jason Crane, the creator of the Jazz Session Podcast, while he was in Richmond.  Jason has been on a “Jazz or Bust Tour” of the country, traveling by Greyhound Bus to various cities and interviewing musicians along the way.  (as well as reading his poetry wherever possible).  You can find out more information about the Jazz Session, Jason’s poetry and the Jazz or Bust Tour on his website at http://jasoncrane.org/

While he was in town we were able to sit down and do an interview about the ScottClark4tet, our new album “A&B” and all things Richmond.  Here is the link to listen to the interview and a link to the digital version of our record.

This is a great thing that Jason is doing and if you would like to help support him on his tour you can do so by making a donation to his trip or by helping him find places to stay along the way.
You can follow him on twitter as well at @JasonDCrane

If you’d like to hear more interviews, Jason has interviewed many Richmond musicians or musicians with ties to Richmond (and just about any other jazz musician you could want to listen to).  Just check out the Jazz Session website to hear interviews with Reggie Pace, Matt White, Darius Jones, Scott Burton and others.

Mingus Awareness Project Concert July 20th @ The Camel 9pm

This Friday, July 20th at The Camel, the ScottClark4tet is excited to be a part of a great benefit concert called the Mingus Awareness Project, featuring some of Richmond’s finest musicians.  The Mingus Awareness Project is a series of concerts that benefits organizations that provide support for individuals who have ALS as well as their families. MAP concerts also provide opportunities for audiences and performers to celebrate the music of Charles Mingus, music composed by artists who worked with Mingus, as well as music by composers who perform during MAP concerts. Ten Mingus Awareness Project concerts have happened in Chicago, IL and Richmond, VA since 2007.  This year the concert will feature 5 groups all playing arrangements of Mingus’s tunes.

The show starts at 9pm.  (all proceeds will be donated towards ALS research).

If you are free please come and enjoy this great night of music and help support a great cause….

Exciting Shows On The Horizon

There are some great shows on the horizon for the 4tet….with some amazing musicians from both in and out of town.  First on Tuesday March 27th we will be sharing a bill at Balliceaux with the duo of drummer Brian Jones and saxophonist JC Kuhl.  Next we return to the Commercial Taphouse on Sunday April 1st for a free show.

Then 2 big shows later in the month of April.  First, on April 12th at The Camel, we will be playing with New York’s amazing Endangered Blood made up of Trevor Dunn-bass, Jim Black-drums, Chris Speed-sax and Oscar Noriega-sax.
The following week we’ll be sharing the stage with a trio of great musicians from Chicago and Switzerland featuring Josh Berman– cornet, Fred Lonberg-Holm– cello, and Christoph Erb– saxophone.  This show will be happening at FORInstance Gallery on April 19th.

On May 15th we will be performing for the Listening Room series at the Firehouse Theater with Richmond’s Near Earth Objects.
And then on May 22nd at The Camel, we will be releasing our first album.  For that show we will be sharing the stage with more great musicians from Chicago.  This time it will be the duo of Tim Daisy- drums and Jeb Bishop- trombone.

I know it’s a lot of music in a short time (not to mention all of the other great music that is always happening in RVA!) but it’s exciting to have such great musicians from out of town interested in coming to Richmond to share their music.

We’re also working out a small tour in May in support of the album….stay tuned for details on that.
Thanks to everyone for their support and come support live music!
